Since the state will be my home for the next three years, I feel obliged to defend it against snobbish New York nay-sayers like certain people we know.

Now, no one can dispute that the Northeast stretch of Jersey along the Penn line and the Turnpike is pretty darn gross, smelly, nasty, and bleak. Factories churning out smoke. Most superfund sites in the nation. Most densely populated state in the Union. Newark, for God's sake. All true.

However, did you know that Jersey is 45% covered by forest? 25% by farmland? Most wetlands of any state in the Northeast? That numerous species of wildlife are represented, even black bears in such numbers that they were allowed to be hunted the past couple of years? It isn't called the Garden State for no reason. Speaking of which, great movie, definately to the state's credit. The bit up near the New York border by Nyack is not bad, as certain unnamed individuals should be aware, and it gets better the farther you go southwest (until you get to Trenton...) Every state has its armpit, it is just Jersey's unfortunate curse that its armpit is the only bit that most people see, on their way to New York of course.
