Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home

Jason and I spent Easter doing a little pond-hopping, and I got to take him to Oxford and walk him all the way to Canterbury Road for this picture. No, Greg did not yell at me, and neither did his scary child.

We had such a wonderful day in Oxford. I know many of you have shared how awkward it was to go back to Oxford with people who "weren't there," but I really had a special time with Jason. He was excited to see this place that has made such an impression on who I am. Plus, he was a little bit like my mom, insisting on taking pictures of me in front of the Bod, St. Aldate's, Keble, and, well, #10.

Walking through the streets of Oxford was like reliving a million conversations with you all. I smiled a lot.

I like you. I finally had a moment tonight to pull out the Oxford scrapbook and flip through it for the first time in a long time, and it was fun to read about the night we went to the Vienna Boys Choir and played Sardines, or had a Mexican feast, or basically IMed each other across the computer lab all night long. Good times. Mostly, I like that you know me, and even now when I have breakfast or lunch or late-night tea with you we can get right down to real conversation. So apparently what we had there does last. That is nice to know.

(And it was wonderful to have dinner with Nicole in London. Yay!)

So, I should be doing homework right now (for 29 minutes, actually). It turns out that while my procrastinative skills are (if possible) even more honed now (the result of too many mornings where my boss says, "You know, I'd like to speak on the floor about that in about two hours.", my ability to stay up much past 10:30 is sorely waning. I'm itching tonight for another reunion. I want to know who we have all become. Anyone?

In other, non-sappy news, things are going pretty well here. I think I finally have my mind wrapped around school, and I'm on the road to feeling comfortable in my job--it's hard to transition from a job and a boss you've had for five years to all new things. I do a lot of second guessing myself. And Jason and I have decided to put this phase of life behind us and buy a house--at once exciting and terrifying. I will miss being able to say "a condo is just right for us right now," but I will really enjoy being able to get something out of the closet without the whole thing tumbling down on me.

Okay, I've posted. Now it's your turn! Is anyone checking this anymore???

(um, btw, I'm annoyed if this blog says "Jason and Missy." I don't love the new blogger.)

I literally gasped when I saw this. It's comforting to know that it's still there... So glad you got to go back and relive some of the best moments of our lives.

I know we're all still in that process of "becoming"...I guess we always will be. One of the hardest things I've ever done is find ways to make life liveable. (And after the events of this week, I need to be reminded even more.)

Thanks, Missy. Glad to know we'll always be able to get to the heart of things, even if it's been ages since we've seen each other. I ache for that immediacy...

Any and all of you are welcome to visit me here on the Caribbean whenever you'd like!

so glad you had a nice time in Oxford. i know what you mean about it being a bit precarious bringing someone from the "outside" into that little world: will they understand?

lovely to see you - brief though it was. clare and i spoke for ages after we left you both how cool a couple you are!

take care and keep us all up to date on what's going on with the smalls!

Who is "turqois"? Why did (s)he remove her/his post from the blog? Does the ? go inside or outside the quatation marks? Eats, Shoots, and Leaves is no help here.

Bringing significant others to Oxford: Didn't work for me. Maybe the next significant other will be more appreciative. Jason is (according to previous postings on this topic) the first such appreciative non-Oxfordian. Hooray for Jason! We knew we liked him! BTW, lovely to meet for meze in Arlington recently.

Greg is gone! Last I checked my favorite professor from Biola was still the "new" "Greg" and a fabulous human being notwitstanding; who didn't threaten American college women with "you will be raped"; nor is he mysoginistic or fundamentalistic in any noticable way. I will be paying NJ a visit end of August, and my current plan is for us to "do" Oxford again. Pub crawl and chips at Husein's featured prominently last time. I will report back. This England excursion comes at the tail end of a stint in South Africa (post forthcoming). Cheers to all, and especially to Missy for returning to the motherland.
